Just one year after finishing with the NFL’s second-worst record, the Washington Commanders are officially returning to the playoffs. Jayden Daniels, a rookie star who has surpassed expectations in his first season under centre for Dan Quinn’s team, is largely responsible for their success. The Commanders will play the Dallas Cowboys to end the regular season with an 11-5 record going into Week 18.
Unfortunately, a victory on Sunday would guarantee the Commanders the No. 6 spot because the Philadelphia Eagles have already secured the NFC East. They would fall to the No. 7 seed, though, if they lose and the Green Bay Packers win. The Commanders’ recovery from the previous season is nothing short of spectacular, even in light of the uncertainty surrounding postseason seeding.
After a historic effort on “Sunday Night Football” against the Falcons, Daniels was selected to his first Pro Bowl on Wednesday. The Commanders’ public relations crew and “The 33rd Team” claim that Daniels became the only quarterback in NFL history to record eight or more passing touchdowns and 200 or more rushing yards in two games.
There have been more highs than lows during his debut season, and it would be historic for the team and the city of Washington, D.C., if he were to secure a postseason berth for the first time since 2020 and possibly lead the Commanders to their first postseason victory since 2005. With his strong season-long performance, Daniels is well on his way to winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. Just nine interceptions have been made as he has thrown for 3,530 yards and 25 passing touchdowns.
He has ran 144 times for 864 yards and six touchdowns while on the ground. Daniels now has the chance to build on his outstanding season and lead his team to postseason victory as the NFL playoffs are less than two weeks away.
