To take Jurickson Profar’s place in left field, the San Diego Padres must acquire an outfielder through trade or acquisition. Profar had a breakout season last season and was outstanding. He had a.280/.459/.839 line with 85 RBIs and 24 home homers. Staring the Padres in the face is the most obvious way to replace that production, but it will be difficult. Simply resign, Profar. R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports anticipates the Padres to do just that. Profar is expected to re-sign with San Diego this winter, according to Anderson’s recent prediction.
According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, Profar will sign a two-year contract worth $26 million. “Profar is a challenging player to assess because last season showed genuine gains according to all underlying metrics. However, clubs have good reason to be wary of age-31 breakout attempts, Anderson noted. “For those reasons, going back to the Padres always seemed to be Profar’s ultimate goal.
Who knows? Perhaps one of the teams that failed to get Teoscar Hernández—the Boston Red Sox, the New York Mets, or another team—will take a risk on Profar in the hopes that he might have another successful season like the one before. Profar has never performed that well in his career, but he was outstanding last year.
He probably won’t sign for more than $20 million year as a result. It should be obvious for the Padres to bring him back for the following two or three years to play with Fernando Tatis Jr. at that price and with the kind of output he had in 2024.
