Only four teams are still vying for a national championship after the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
Two of those teams are the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Texas Longhorns, who will square off in the 89th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday at AT&T Stadium.
But with a winter storm headed for the Dallas/Arlington area, there have been questions regarding the Cotton Bowl’s future. Weather.com predicts 1-3 inches of snow and a little rain on Thursday into Friday morning, with the chance of ice.
Despite the fact that the game at AT&T Stadium will take place indoors, some were concerned that the semifinal match might be postponed because of the travel risk. According to On3 Sports, bowl authorities even convened with meteorologists, emergency management, law enforcement, and College Football Playoff leadership to talk about the approaching storm.
Following more deliberation, it appears that the Cotton Bowl will proceed as planned at 7:30 p.m. ET. The update was provided in an official statement from the Cotton Bowl and AT&T Stadium.
“We are still keeping an eye on weather forecasts, and the National Weather Service has improved their forecast for later this week during the past day. We have been holding regular meetings with the College Football Playoff, the North Texas Director of Transportation, and city officials. In the event that the forecast changes, we are ready for everything.
Plans are in place to ensure that everyone is safe within and around AT&T Stadium on game day, and North Texas roadways are already being brought in.
