The Texas Longhorns, led by coach Steve Sarkisian, are aiming for their first national title since 2005 as they enter the College Football Playoff semifinals. The Ohio State Buckeyes will play Texas on January 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Longhorns revealed some amazing Sarkisian news prior to the playoff showdown.
According to Justin Wells at On3Sports, the Texas head coach has been selected as a finalist for the Bear Bryant Coach of the Year award. Sarkisian joins a distinguished group of finalists that also includes Jeff Monken, Rhett Lashlee, Marcus Freeman, Kenny Dillingham, Shane Beamer, and Curt Cignetti. On January 22, 2025, the Post Oak Hotel in Houston, Texas, will host a live announcement of the award. NEW: Steve Sarkisian has been selected as a finalist for Bear Bryant Coach of the Year. In Austin in 2024, the head coach of the Longhorns is vying for Coach of the Year.
The Longhorns have a 13-2 record under Sarkisian’s leadership, including two bowl-game wins. Texas defeated Arizona State 39-31 in the quarterfinals and Clemson 38-24 in the opening round. According to ESPN BET, Texas is a 5.5-point underdog going into the Cotton Bowl matchup with Ohio State.
Since 2021, Sarkisian has been a member of the Longhorns. As head coach at Texas, he presently has a 38-17 record, with a 2-1 record in the College Football Playoffs. Sarkisian, who was a member of Nick Saban’s coaching staff in Alabama before to coming to Texas, was the offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide from 2019 to 2020.
