Derrek Cooper is a name that every Georgia football fan should keep an eye on as the recruiting path for the 2026 class heats up. Cooper is a five-star ATH and the nation’s No. 23 overall player, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He is also the No. 3 athlete in his class and the No. 3 player from his native state of Florida.
Kirby Smart and his crew have expressed strong interest in Cooper and have actively recruited him. And this was evident when Smart paid Cooper a personal visit on Tuesday.
Georgia has lately gotten significant news on Cooper’s recruitment, indicating that their recent efforts have been successful.
Georgia football is likely in Cooper’s top two.
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, Georgia has officially made Cooper’s top ten list. Cooper also selected nine other programs, including Florida State, Alabama, Florida, Penn State, Miami (FL), Auburn, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Ole Miss.
While making Cooper’s top ten is impressive, it looks that Georgia is currently far higher on his list. According to Chad Simmons’ report, the Bulldogs are one of Cooper’s top two choices. Cooper has only planned two official trips, to Miami and Georgia. So, they appear to be Cooper’s top two colleges right now.
This would be a wonderful recruiting to win if Georgia and Miami are indeed the top two schools after the Hurricanes snatched Carson Beck from Georgia. Regardless of the backstory, Cooper is an exceptional athlete who Georgia would be fortunate to have in their program, so that is reason enough to go all out in this recruitment.
