Mack Brown, former Texas Longhorns head coach, is a free agent this offseason. This comes after Brown finished his six-year career with the North Carolina Tar Heels. The former national champion was at the Moody Centre on Saturday to watch the Longhorns’ 22-point comeback triumph over the Texas A&M Aggies. Brown was seen shaking the hands of important Texas players such as safety Michael Taaffe, Arch Manning, Deandre Moore, and CJ Baxter at the game.
While Brown had been a popular contender for a return among supporters during the offseason, Saturday’s return heightened the chorus of support for the move. One fan wrote on the social networking platform, X, “I still love me some Mack Brown.” Should bring him on as an analyst/consultant.” Another expressed a similar sentiment: “It’s great to see Coach Brown back on campus.” Hopefully he’ll obtain a job with the University soon, and let’s purchase him some new stuff to wear!” Under Brown’s coaching, Texas has nine consecutive 10-win seasons, two Big 12 titles, and the team’s most recent national championship.
It remains to be unclear whether Brown will play a supporting role for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff, but the Hall of Fame coach is likely to have useful information to contribute. Brown is sixth all-time in head coaching wins (282) after Joe Paterno (409), Bobby Bowden (357), Bear Bryant (323), Pop Warner (314), and Nick Saban (297).
