Pete Carroll, the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, was officially named as the team’s new leader on Monday after taking the 2024 season off after 14 seasons with the Seahawks. Carroll guided Seattle to ten postseason berths, including back-to-back Super Bowls and a title in 2014. Carroll’s former star rushing back Marshawn ‘Beast Mode’ Lynch surprised attendees on Monday by interrupting the press conference with a loud and noisy praise of his former coach, eliciting a hilarious and unexpected response.
“RAIDERS!” Lynch could be heard exclaiming in the background while Carroll spoke on Monday, prompting Carroll to pause before smiling and responding to his former player. “Okay, there you go. Carroll stated, “That is what I am talking about.” “Settle down a little bit,” Carroll continued, attempting to return to the serious tone of the press conference.
The Raiders last made the playoffs in 2021 and 2016, but lost the first game both times. Their last playoff victory came during their Super Bowl season in 2002, with former NFL MVP Rich Gannon at quarterback. Carroll underlined the significance of the quarterback position on Monday, amid speculation about who the Raiders would sign this summer in the hopes of upgrading the position.
