Chip Kelly, Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, left to call plays for the Las Vegas Raiders next season, leaving Ryan Day and the defending national champions with a massive vacuum in their coaching staff. Following a spectacular run in the first year of the enlarged College Football Playoff, Day must now fill both coordinator positions as well as an offensive line vacancy. He undoubtedly has his preferred choices for one of the national title frontrunners in 2025.

Under Kelly, Ohio State finished fourth in the Big Ten in overall offence (429.4 yards per game) and 14th in the country in scoring offence (35.7 points per game). It was an improvement over the Buckeyes’ 2023 averages of 407.9 YPG and 30.5 PPG. Ohio State loses Will Howard at quarterback and both of its top rushers, but it retains Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and Brandon Inniss at wide out, as well as good depth along the offensive line.
