Myles Garrett, the former defensive player of the year, has began his dance. And it appears like the Philadelphia Eagles will be key players going forward. When the 29-year-old All-Pro demanded a trade from the Cleveland Browns earlier this week, the whole league was astonished by the change of events. Here was a future Hall of Famer telling the world he wanted out of his current predicament. And, like he has for the past decade, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman remains in the shadows…sort of. Roseman understands that he cannot openly comment or claim that the team is currently pursuing a player like Garrett.
That would be evidence of tampering. It’s why he remained cautious when asked about Garrett at a media appearance in New Orleans. “I’m not going to talk about anyone else under contract with any team,” Roseman added, smiling. “Nice try, though.” Roseman cannot remark on the matter, but radio reporters can.
And that is exactly what 94.1 WIP did on Wednesday afternoon. While Garrett was seen heading down radio row, the noon drive crew of Ike Reese, Jack Fritz, and Spike Eskin went berserk, yelling at the All-Pro and calling him a “future Eagle.” Garrett hastily fled the location, attempting to avoid reacting to the wild outburst from Philadelphia Sports Radio’s flagship station. WIP’s shenanigans spread so far via radio row that Garrett’s following interview, with Zach Gelb, clarified if he would be willing to come to Philadelphia. “It would be a hell of a destination,” Garrett added. “I’m not going to stay too attached to any one team.” The Garrett dilemma will not be resolved during the Super Bowl.
The Eagles themselves are getting ready for the big game. However, whether they win or lose, the Birds will return to action in order to enhance their roster. And it appears that everyone is on the Garrett trade now.
