BREAKING: “He Isn’t Coming Back” Russell Wilson won’t Be Back With Steelers As Confirmed By GM Omar Khan

We are still more than a month away from the start of the NFL’s new league year, when teams can formally begin making roster moves and prepping for the 2025 season. For the second consecutive season, the Steelers will approach the summer with quarterback problems. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are both scheduled to become free agents, and Skylar Thompson is the only other quarterback under contract.

Reports have also surfaced that Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith put training wheels on Wilson following the first game against the Bengals, in which Wilson turned back time and threw for over 400 yards while the Steelers scored 44 points and trounced Cincinnati. According to these accounts, Smith urged Wilson to cease checking out of plays at the line of scrimmage so Pittsburgh could build a run game, which never happened, and the Steelers’ offence looked horrible in the final month. If those reports are true, they are quite devastating for Smith.

Many, however, viewed it with a grain of salt, figuring Wilson’s crew leaked/planted the story to make Wilson appear better. Regardless, a swarm of fans will take any report with a grain of salt until it comes from NFL insider Jay Glazer, Mike Tomlin’s close friend. Glazer shared his thoughts on the Steelers with NBC during Radio Row.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen,” Glazer stated about Wilson’s return to the Steelers. “I think we’ll see a new start for Russell somewhere else.”

Glazer also stated that he does not think the Steelers know who their quarterback will be in 2025. And, while many assume Justin Fields will be the choice, it remains uncertain, especially if someone like Matthew Stafford becomes available. However, it appears that Russell Wilson’s time in Pittsburgh is up.
