JUST IN: Packers’ Davante Adams Dream Turns Into a Nightmare After GM Brian Gutekunst Latest Announcement

Davante Adams’ return to the Green Bay Packers makes perfect sense.

Winning the Super Bowl with the New York Jets? Yes, it is not occurring. The Jets can save nearly $30 million in cap space by releasing Adams, who can then choose his next destination to pursue a championship.

The Packers boast one of the league’s most promising young rosters. Adding a few veterans, particularly an experienced receiver, might propel this club to the Super Bowl elite.

Adams has spoken highly of the Packers this summer, essentially describing himself while assessing their most pressing need. He stated that they “need some receiver help” before adding, “Maybe a veteran.” He has made other clues subsequently, including uploading a photo of his green and gold sneakers.

A Packers-Adams reunion is the ideal scenario, right? Well, the prospective reality is more like a nightmare.

Ian Rapoport provides alarming data about Davante Adams’ likely landing destination.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets are moving on from Aaron Rodgers, and Adams is also “likely” out.

The Packers needed that domino to fall, as Rodgers’ departure makes way for Adams’ return. However, Rapoport noted, “Adams would like to be on the West Coast.”

That changes everything and puts three teams in the spotlight: the Los Angeles Chargers, the Los Angeles Rams, and the San Francisco 49ers.

Adams’ move to the Chargers would be innocent enough, but switching from the Jets to the Rams or Niners? No, thanks. Aside from Adams playing for a division opponent, that’s about the worst-case situation possible.

The Rams came close to defeating the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Divisional Round and concluded the regular season with a 9-3 record. They will most likely replace Cooper Kupp, but combining Adams with Puka Nacua would make the NFC even more competitive.

San Francisco failed to make the playoffs this season, but history shows that Kyle Shanahan’s teams do not stay down for long. Since 2019, the 49ers have only missed the playoffs twice and have advanced to the NFC Championship Game four times.

Packers' Brian Gutekunst will be 'his own man' as GM

It would be unjust if Adams joined Shanahan’s offence.

This offseason, the Packers have an opportunity to reduce the gap on the Eagles and Detroit Lions in the NFC, but they cannot ignore other opposition that is growing. The Rams and 49ers might be strong Super Bowl contenders by 2025.

Either team acquiring Adams would not only deprive the Packers of a key target, but it would also make the trip through the NFC more difficult.
