South Bend, Indiana (WNDU) -Notre Dame has allegedly hired a new general manager with NFL experience to oversee their football team.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported that coach Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame administration have chosen Mike Martin of the Detroit Lions for the role. Several other news outlets have also covered the hire.
Martin has four years of experience as the Detroit Lions’ director of scouting advancement and has worked for five NFL teams.
He was instrumental in the development of the Detroit Lions’ roster over the last few years, including the most recent 15-2 season.
The post of general manager in college football has grown in importance as programs have become more similar to the NFL, with players being paid through NIL.
Notre Dame wanted to employ James Blanchard of Texas Tech for the position, but he eventually declined.
The post became available after former GM Chad Bowden accepted a similar role at USC.
