The San Diego Padres have enjoyed a quiet offseason following their sad playoff elimination. There were ownership challenges, and a final ruling placed the Padres in the hands of Peter Siedler’s brother, John. Free agency became a more challenging proposition for the team while that was being worked out. However, recent events have escalated. The Padres have now acquired Kyle Hart to their rotation as free agency winds down.
“The Padres announce the signing of left-handed pitcher Kyle Hart to a one-year contract after spending last year in the KBO where he won Korea’s version of the Cy Young award,” according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.
Hart appeared in four games for the 2020 Red Sox, allowing 19 earned runs over 11 innings. After bouncing around the minor leagues with Red Sox, Mariners, and Phillies organizations, he signed in Korea before the season. Hart finished 13-3 with a 2.86 ERA and 182 strikeouts in 157 innings. His production earned him a return to the major leagues with the Padres.
