Once again, the Washington Commanders face a busy offseason, and they intend to double down and continue the reconstruction under the new leadership. The foundations were established last offseason, with a slew of free agents signing to round out the squad, and the Commanders won 12 games and advanced to the NFC championship game.
But general manager Adam Peters understands he can’t sit on his hands now, especially with Jayden Daniels still on his rookie contract, so the Commanders must be proactive. With over $78 million in cap space, ESPN’s Matt Bowen is asking Washington to spend big on Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins to partner with Terry McLaurin. “Wide receiver Tee Higgins signs with the Commanders,” Bowen writes in his column. “Adding another perimeter target for quarterback Jayden Daniels should be a top offseason focus for Washington
. It has the cap room to pair Higgins with Terry McLaurin, giving Daniels two passing game standouts. Now, the Commanders must re-sign a number of players and fill other free agency positions, but if Higgins is available, Peters must make a call. Spotrac.com estimates Higgins’ market value at $25.5 million APY, so let’s go with four years and $100 million. Is that feasible for Washington? One may answer sure, but will the franchise be willing to go the extra mile for a receiver?
Granted, the Commanders require all of the offensive assistance they can get, and in Higgins, defences would have to choose who to stop: him or McLaurin, leaving the latter to feast. Washington must take proactive steps to build on what was accomplished in 2024, and adding Higgins would signal that the NFC East franchise is “all-in” on making the Super Bowl in Daniels’ second season.
