
The Las Vegas Raiders are still rebuilding. According to ESPN, the organization is firing Champ Kelly, its associate general manager. Kelly has been with the team for the past three seasons.
Las Vegas is attempting to clean house after a poor 4-13 season in 2024. After the season ended, the team sacked coach Antonio Pierce. Pete Carroll, the Super Bowl winning coach, took up Pierce’s position. Since then, Carroll has expanded his Raiders staff, including employing two of his sons as coaches.
Kelly worked for multiple NFL teams throughout his career, beginning with the Denver Broncos. Kelly joined Denver in 2007 as a college scout. Since then, he has worked his way up the front office ladder. He also spent several years working for the Chicago Bears.
Kelly recently interviewed for the general manager position with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to ESPN. He had served as the Raiders’ interim general manager when Dave Ziegler left the team.
The Raiders are attempting to become winners again.
The Raiders have only made a handful of postseason appearances in the last decade. All of the losses have left Las Vegas fans upset. So were Oakland fans when the team played there. The franchise hasn’t won a Super Bowl in over 20 years.
The Raiders last won the Super Bowl in 1983.
Carroll brings a championship resume to the franchise, but even he has struggled as a coach. Carroll was successful with the Seattle Seahawks, leading them to a Super Bowl victory. However, his last three seasons were disappointing, with a combined record of 25-26.
Carroll didn’t coach in 2024. To preserve his job, he’ll need to start winning immediately soon in Las Vegas. This is a significant gamble for the experienced coach, and his legacy may be determined by how well he does with the Raiders.
Las Vegas is searching for a quarterback. Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson have been identified as potential additions to the club. Chip Kelly is in charge of the Raiders’ offence, so there is an intriguing dynamic forming in Las Vegas.
The Raiders have their first opportunity to improve their roster in the 2025 NFL Draft. Las Vegas holds the sixth overall pick. The draft starts on April 24.
