The Green Bay Packers will need to make some significant additions to their roster this offseason. During his end-of-year press conference, general manager Brian Gutekunst stated that he felt it was time for his club to begin truly competing for titles. Given that the Packers have made the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, fans interpreted this statement to imply that significant money will be spent on veterans in free agency.
One position that many believe the Packers should address on the free agent or trade market is wide receiver. Christian Watson will miss most of the 2025 NFL season after tearing his ACL in Green Bay’s Week 18 loss to the Chicago Bears. Furthermore, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks all experienced decline percentages of 10-12%.
With Watson out and no other wide outs stepping up to be Jordan Love’s go-to target in the passing game, many believe Green Bay should go out and get a proven number one wide receiver.
Even Green Bay Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs wants the team to sign a veteran wide receiver.
In the week preceding up to Super Bowl LIX, Packers running back Josh Jacobs told Bill Simmons, “I think we need a guy that’s proven to be a number one wide receiver already.”
Several players, including Tee Higgins, Davante Adams, DK Metcalf, and Cooper Kupp, have been linked to the Packers this offseason as potential candidates for this role. Higgins, on the other hand, is expected to be franchised by the Cincinnati Bengals, while Adams has been connected to the Los Angeles Rams (along with former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers).
And, while adding a proven number one wide receiver would be ideal, there is no assurance that the Packers will be able to secure one. However, the Packers might make a classic move and sign a respected veteran in pursuit of a chance to show himself worthy of a larger contract following a one-year tryout in Green Bay.
The Green Bay Packers could pursue Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in free agency.
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, a seasoned wide receiver who played only two games for the Kansas City Chiefs last season, will be hoping for such a contract. Patrick K. Flowers of Bleacher Nation feels he should be one of Green Bay’s top five free agent targets, writing:
“With Christian Watson set to miss at least the first half of the 2025 season, Hollywood Brown could be a nice buy-low field-stretcher for Green Bay who could come at a reasonable price point after two sub-par seasons in Arizona and a prove-it year in Kansas City that was largely lost to a shoulder injury.”
Brown has suffered numerous injuries throughout his career and will not be pricey in free agency. His greatest season came in 2021, his third year in the NFL, when he recorded 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns.
