OFFICIAL VERDICT: Packers GM Has Taken A Brutal Decision On Romeo Doubs Following Khalil Shakir Contract Extension

The Green Bay Packers must make crucial decisions at wide receiver.

It was brutally clear during their disappointing playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Jordan Love lacked a reliable receiver in crunch time.

The Packers need to look for reinforcements. Along with short-term assistance, they must examine the big picture beyond the following season. Christian Watson will miss a considerable portion of the regular season, and his and Romeo Doubs’ contracts expire in 2026.

The Packers cannot pay everyone. Given that Zach Tom, Quay Walker, Devonte Wyatt, Rasheed Walker, and Kingsley Enagbare will all be eligible for free agency in 2026, we may expect at least one of Watson or Doubs to leave in a year. Maybe both.

Buffalo Bills WR Khalil Shakir agrees to four-year contract extension

Re-signing either player would most certainly come at a premium cost, so the Packers must begin developing a backup plan.

Packers must start considering Romeo Doubs’ long-term replacement.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir has agreed to a four-year contract extension worth up to $60.2 million.
It could have a huge impact on Doubs. As Andy Herman of Packer Report pointed out, the two receivers have identical statistics since joining the league. Doubs has a tiny advantage in receiving yards (1,700 to 1,593) and a larger lead in receiving touchdowns (15 to 7).

Doubters may look for a comparable offer, but the Packers should pass.

They have way too many other objectives, like as extending Zach Tom’s contract, to sign Doubs to a deal for more than $15 million per year. While the former fourth-round pick is a competent receiver, he has yet to take the next step toward being a top target.

Doubs has never gained more than 700 yards in three seasons. Sure, the Packers spread the ball around, but he’s only had one 100-yard game (a playoff triumph over the Dallas Cowboys in 2024). He’s never reached that mark during the regular season.

The Packers already need to consider adding a wide receiver. That may be reuniting with Davante Adams or making a big trade for DK Metcalf. The most likely scenario is that the Packers use their Day 2 draft pick to add pass-catching talent.

In the immediate term, they require another talented receiver to complement Jordan Love. Looking at the big picture, they may need a Doubs replacement.
