BREAKING NEWS : Saints GM Mickey Loomis excited to have Derek Carr returning: ‘We feel like we’ve got a guy we can win with’

New Orleans, LA – New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis has made it clear: Derek Carr is their guy. In a recent interview, Loomis expressed strong confidence in the veteran quarterback, emphasizing the team’s excitement for his return in 2024.

“We feel like we’ve got a guy we can win with,” Loomis said. “Derek is a proven leader, and we’re confident in his ability to lead this team to success.”

Carr, who joined the Saints in 2023 after nine seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, had an up-and-down first season in New Orleans. He finished the year with 3,878 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, guiding the Saints to a 9-8 record. Despite missing the playoffs, the organization believes Carr’s leadership and familiarity with the system will be crucial heading into the new season.

Loomis emphasized that Carr’s presence provides stability at the most important position on the field. “Having continuity at quarterback is something every successful team needs. Derek’s return gives us that stability, and we’re excited to build on what we started last year.”

Carr’s first year in New Orleans came with challenges, including injuries to key offensive players and inconsistent offensive line play. However, the Saints’ front office has been active this offseason, looking to bolster the roster and provide Carr with additional weapons and protection.

Head coach Dennis Allen also voiced his support for Carr, saying the quarterback’s leadership in the locker room has been invaluable. “Derek’s work ethic, his preparation, and his ability to command the huddle are exactly what we need.
