OFFCIALLY SIGNED: Former Detroit Tigers Pitcher Signs With Mets After Strong 2024

After several spring training injuries to their pitching staff, the Mets will bring in a former Tigers right-hander to add depth.

Jose Urena joined the Mets on a minor league contract this week, according to Newsday.

Urena joins his new team after a successful comeback season in 2024. Urena had only 10 MLB appearances for two clubs in 2023, but spent 2024 with the Rangers, pitching 109 innings largely out of the bullpen and compiling a 3.80 ERA, his greatest season total.

Urena spent 2021 in Detroit, making 26 appearances, including 18 starts. He had a 5.81 ERA, his second-highest in a season up to that point, as he lost his job in the rotation and was not re-signed the following year.

The Mets will be Urena’s seventh MLB team in 11 seasons.
