Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi addressed concerns about his team’s performance after their narrow 2-1 victory over Magesi in a hard-fought match on Sunday. Despite coming out on top, the Chiefs were far from their best, with Nabi attributing their struggles to a combination of factors, including fatigue and Magesi’s resilient defensive play.
The match saw Kaizer Chiefs go ahead early with a well-executed goal, but Magesi’s spirited fight brought the game to a tense conclusion, with the underdogs pulling one back late in the second half. The Chiefs were forced to hold off a wave of pressure as Magesi searched for an equalizer.
In his post-match interview, Nabi acknowledged that his side’s performance was far from the level expected.
“We came into this match with a lot of expectation, but Magesi made it very difficult for us,” Nabi said. “They were well-organized defensively, and we couldn’t break them down as easily as we would have liked. We also have to be honest—some of our players are feeling the effects of a busy schedule.”
Nabi pointed to the physical toll from recent matches as one of the key reasons behind the team’s lack of fluidity. With several key players recovering from injuries, the coach noted that there was a lack of sharpness in the final third and some defensive lapses.
“We didn’t show the aggression and intensity that we normally do,” he continued. “We didn’t control possession the way we wanted, and that gave Magesi opportunities. But credit to them—they were difficult to break down.”
Despite the concerns, Nabi expressed satisfaction with the three points. “In the end, a win is a win, and we take that into our next match. We will work on the areas that need improvement,” he said. The Chiefs will now turn their focus to preparing for their next fixture as they aim to build on this narrow victory and improve their performance moving forward.
