The Los Angeles Dodgers are attempting to accomplish something unprecedented in baseball in the last quarter-century: winning the World Series in consecutive years.

The San Diego Padres are attempting to accomplish something that has been unreachable since 2006: winning the National League West.

The Dodgers have dominated the NL West since 2013, winning the divisional championship every year except in 2021, when the San Francisco Giants won the division by one game before losing to Los Angeles in the NLDS.

As the rivalry has heated up in recent years, with the Dodgers and Padres emerging as the most feared competitors from the West, one of San Diego’s studs believes the division can be won by 2025.

Padres' Manny Machado wants revenge on this NL West rival

Manny Machado, a former Dodger and current Padres third baseman, believes that this will be the season when the Friars surpass their opponents and win the division. When asked if San Diego might win the NL West this season by MLB veteran and current MLB Network commentator Yonder Alonso, Machado responded firmly.

“Absolutely,” the infielder replied. “What we did last year as an organization and as a team surprised a lot of people. We overcame a lot of obstacles and created something quite amazing here. Coming into this season, we have the same squad that left; we are missing some components, but with the team we have in place, we are ready to compete.

“We’re ready to handle some unfinished business that we have.”

The unfinished business in question is the Dodgers’ Game 5 loss in the NLDS last season.

The Padres have undoubtedly made big personnel moves, but the Dodgers’ post-championship improvement is unique in this sport.

The Cy Young Award winners, MVPs, and foreign phenoms on the Los Angeles roster will do all in their ability to make history this season, while also ensuring that the Padres do not write a new chapter of their own.
