The moment Packers fans have been waiting for all offseason may finally be here—well, potentially.
For months, the focus in Green Bay has been on Jaire Alexander’s future with the team. The situation has reached a crossroads, where it seems like both sides might be better off moving on. Yet, as the new league year kicks off, no decision has been made—yet.
That could change soon—possibly even today. According to ESPN’s Packers insider Rob Demovsky, a resolution may be near. On Wednesday morning, Demovsky hinted at an impending decision, sharing insights that suggest movement on the Alexander front. It’s likely the most intriguing Packers update of the day—certainly more compelling than salary cap discussions or rumors about Trey Hendrickson.
The Packers may be on the verge of deciding Alexander’s fate
Today could bring clarity to Alexander’s future. Green Bay hasn’t released him yet for two key reasons:
- They’re still hoping to work out a trade.
- If they plan to designate him as a post-June 1 cut for cap relief, they must wait until 3 p.m. today.
While it’s understandable that the Packers are still holding out for a trade, the chances of a meaningful deal seem slim. But hey, never say never—maybe they can strike a deal with the Rams for an underwhelming Cooper Kupp trade.
What’s most telling is that neither of these scenarios involve Alexander actually staying in Green Bay. Given how last season ended, a return always felt unlikely, but there was a small chance things could be worked out. However, if even Demovsky—who is as well-connected to the team as anyone—doesn’t consider that possibility, it’s probably time to accept that Alexander’s days in Green Bay are numbered.
For now, it’s a waiting game. By 3 p.m., we’ll have our answer, and this speculation will either be confirmed or rendered irrelevant. But until then, there’s plenty of time to embrace the endless offseason debate—because that’s what the NFL offseason is really all about.
