Former Colts linebacker Grant Stuard is joining the Detroit Lions, bringing his special teams prowess and defensive depth to the roster.
Stuard, 26, announced his move to Detroit via Instagram. Originally drafted by the Buccaneers in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, he primarily played special teams as a rookie before being traded to the Colts in 2022.
In Indianapolis, he continued excelling in that role, earning the title of special teams captain. However, Stuard also proved his defensive value last season, starting five games at linebacker.
The Lions, dealing with injuries on defense last season, are looking to strengthen their depth, and Stuard provides a versatile option. While his primary role is expected to be on special teams, he also offers potential as a rotational linebacker. Detroit benefits from adding a hardworking, experienced player at a reasonable cost.
