
The Washington Commanders announced today that they have signed cornerback Jonathan Jones. The full terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Jones (5-9, 185) is a nine-year NFL veteran who went undrafted until signing with the New England Patriots in 2016. Before signing with Washington this offseason, he spent all nine seasons in New England. He’s started 71 of his 132 career games and has 322 tackles, 11 interceptions, and 57 passes defended.
Jones played 17 games for New England in 2024, totaling 58 tackles, six passes defended, and two caused fumbles. He started at least 14 games for the third straight season.
Jones started 16 games in 2022, setting career highs for tackles (68), interceptions (4), and passes defended (11).
Jones played in all 48 games throughout his first three seasons (2016-18), recording four interceptions and 16 passes defended. He appeared in seven playoff games, including a start in Super Bowl LIII, when he had eight tackles and one sack.
Jones, a Carrollton, Georgia native, attended Carrollton High School and played four seasons at Auburn (2013-16). Jones appeared in 45 games and accumulated 129 tackles, seven interceptions, and 26 passes defended.
