The Las Vegas Raiders have signed veteran running back Raheem Mostert to a one-year, $1.2 million contract, according to several sources on Thursday.
The free agent has reconnected with the Raiders’ new offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, who was the 49ers’ head coach in 2016 when Mostert played. Kelly was also the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles during Mostert’s brief stint on the practice squad in 2015.
The Miami Dolphins released Mostert, who turns 33 in April, in February, freeing up $2.9 million in salary cap space.
Mostert joined Miami in 2022 and had his best season in 2023, rushing for 1,012 yards and leading the NFL with 21 touchdowns from scrimmage. He was picked for the Pro Bowl.
In 2024, Mostert split backup responsibilities with rookie Jaylen Wright, rushing for 278 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games (one start).
Mostert was undrafted in 2015 and has run for 3,791 yards and 34 touchdowns in 103 games (39 starts) for the Dolphins (2015, 2022-24), Baltimore Ravens (2015), Cleveland Browns (2015), Chicago Bears (2016), and San Francisco (2016-21).
The Raiders’ best rushers from last season, Alexander Mattison (420 yards, four touchdowns) and Ameer Abdullah (311, two), are free agents. Mostert could lead the depth chart, ahead of Zamir White, Sincere McCormick, and Chris Collier.
