Pittsburgh Steelers QB Heading to Detroit.
The Detroit Lions are adding veteran Kyle Allen to their quarterback depth chart, according to an announcement from his agency, Vayner Football.
According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Lions have reached an agreement with veteran quarterback Kyle Allen. After a season with the #Steelers, Allen will join Detroit’s quarterback room behind Jared Goff.
Allen, 29, formerly played backup quarterback to Russell Wilson and Justin Fields for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022. His last two starts were in 2022, with the Houston Texans.
Allen contributes 19 career starts and seven years of experience to the team. The Lions’ quarterback room presently comprises franchise quarterback Goff, backups Hendon Hooker, and Jake Fromm.

While some predict that Hooker’s days in Detroit are numbered, don’t count on it. Detroit Lions analyst and expert Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News writes in a piece published Thursday, March 13, that “It’s probably safe to assume the job of Hooker, a developmental quarterback Detroit selected in the third round of the 2023 draft, is safe.”
Bianchi continued: “We might have to wait until training camp to learn the fate of Fromm, who will probably be Allen’s primary competition.”
