BREAKING: NFL Geogia free agency Eagles sign former New York Giant Azeez Ojulari

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a significant splash in free agency, signing former New York Giants edge rusher Azeez Ojulari to a multi-year deal. The move, announced early Wednesday morning, adds another dynamic pass-rusher to the Eagles’ already formidable defensive front.

While the full financial terms have not yet been disclosed, sources indicate that Ojulari’s contract is a three-year deal worth approximately $39 million, with $24 million guaranteed. The Eagles, who have been aggressively retooling their defense this offseason, view Ojulari as a key piece in their quest to return to Super Bowl contention.

Ojulari, 23, was drafted by the Giants in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Georgia. Known for his explosiveness off the edge and refined pass-rushing technique, he showed immediate promise as a rookie, registering eight sacks and 13 quarterback hits. However, injuries hampered his progress over the last two seasons, limiting his impact.

In 2023, Ojulari appeared in just 10 games due to a nagging ankle issue, recording 5.5 sacks and 7 tackles for loss. Despite his limited availability, his flashes of dominance made him one of the more intriguing free agents on the market. The Eagles are betting on his upside, hoping he can stay healthy and return to his rookie-season form.

The addition of Ojulari strengthens an already talented Eagles defensive line, which includes stars like Haason Reddick, Josh Sweat, and Jordan Davis. By adding another versatile edge rusher, Philadelphia gives defensive coordinator Vic Fangio even more flexibility in creating mismatches and applying consistent pressure.

“Ojulari gives us another explosive weapon off the edge,” Eagles GM Howie Roseman said in a statement. “His ability to disrupt opposing quarterbacks will be a major asset for our defense.”

For Giants fans, seeing Ojulari land with a division rival stings. Many had hoped New York would retain the young pass-rusher, but the team ultimately let him walk as they prioritized other areas. Social media was flooded with frustrated reactions from Giants supporters, with some questioning the front office’s decision to part ways with a promising player.

With Ojulari in the fold, the Eagles continue to position themselves as one of the most aggressive teams in free agency. Meanwhile, the Giants will now have to find a replacement for Ojulari’s production, potentially targeting edge rushers in the upcoming NFL Draft.

The NFC East rivalry just got even more heated, with Ojulari now set to face his former team twice a year in what will surely be must-watch matchups.
