There is no love lost for divisional opponents, particularly Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson. Jackson has been outspoken about not being buddies with his opponents. More news: In the Tokyo Series game, a former NFL quarterback robbed the Dodgers’ star from an easy out. Jackson famously said, “Don’t get me wrong, there is no conflict or anything like that, but we are competing with one other. I’m attempting to beat you. “I’m not trying to be your friend,” referring to being friends with Josh Allen. Jackson has taken his aversion to making friends with opponents to the next level, presumably taking a significant dig at the Cincinnati Bengals in a cryptic social media post.
Jackson utilized the popular clip of Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James pretending to be terrified to take a swipe at the Bengals’ new contracts. Though a simple gif is insufficient to corroborate this, Jackson’s message came just days after the new contracts were signed. Fans also believe Jackson is taking a swipe at his divisional opponents. The Bengals signed Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to new contracts, with Chase becoming the league’s highest-paid non-quarterback after signing a four-year, $161 million contract at $40.25 million per season. Higgins signed a new four-year, $115 million contract that may increase to $30 million per season with player incentives.
Jackson and the Ravens have been dominant in the AFC North so far, thanks in large part to how the MVP has performed throughout his career. The Bengals and Ravens have a longstanding rivalry, with Baltimore holding a 4-0 record in their last four regular-season meetings. Jackson most likely uploaded the James gif to emphasize his willingness for the Bengals to re-sign Chase and Higgins on whatever terms. The Ravens’ problem is their failure to reach the big game.
Baltimore won the NFC North title in 2024, but fell to the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round of the Playoffs. In contrast, the Bengals did not make the playoffs. Both teams have made big roster adjustments and will continue to do so as the draft approaches. For the time being, Jackson is starting the rivalry early on social media.
