HUGE INCOMING: Commanders Agree to Deal To Sign Former Cowboys WR Free Agency To a Massive 4- Years Contract

The Washington Commanders’ receiving room had already changed following a free-agent signing. While the club has defensive needs, they have continued to add to their offensive. The Commanders have reached an agreement with a former Cowboys wide receiver, according to Tom Pelissero’s report on X.

Michael Gallup, a six-year veteran, joined the Cowboys as a third-round pick out of Colorado State. Gallup, who was always second fiddle in Dallas, had his greatest year in 2019, catching 66 receptions for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns.

However, his productivity fell to 843 yards in 2020. Injuries hampered his ability to reach 500 yards in any of the seasons from 2021 to 2023. Gallup did not play in the NFL in 2024 because he decided to retire.

Commanders add wide receiver Michael Gallup
Interestingly, former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy claimed Gallup had lead-role potential in his best season.

“Let’s make it clear, Michael Gallup is a No. 1 receiver in my view,” McCarthy informed the crowd. “I think we’re extremely fortunate. He was probably one of the athletes who stood out on video during the offseason research.”
Of course, those days have passed. Gallup, on the other hand, will not be requested to serve as the Commanders’ WR1. He will not be assigned as a WR2 now that Deebo Samuel is in the house.

So, can Michael Gallup be a constant No. 3? From a talent standpoint, it appears he could.

But he will have to overcome his injury problems. An ACL injury interrupted his season in 2021 and restricted him in 2022.

It is possible that the Commanders like what they see of Gallup. Dan Quinn is familiar with Gallup from his days in Dallas. It could also indicate a shrinking free agency market, at least in terms of affordability.

Stefon Diggs Sparks Bills Reunion Rumors With Cryptic Move

For example, the Commanders may have signed Stefon Diggs. But they may receive equal productivity from Gallup because Diggs is unable to stay on the field due to health issues. Gallup is also significantly cheaper.

Keep in mind that Gallup is 29 years old. All of the top remaining free agents are past the age of thirty.

Gallup will benefit from the opportunity to deliver passes alongside young quarterback Jayden Daniels.
