The Washington Commanders are coming off a historic 2024 season in which they advanced to the NFC Championship Game despite being led by a rookie quarterback. Jayden Daniels had an outstanding rookie season at quarterback, essentially transforming the franchise.
Earlier this offseason, Washington traded for wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Now they’ve added another.
Micahel Gallup has returned to the NFL. Gallup inked a contract with the Washington Commanders on Thursday.
Gallup is trying to make a comeback after retiring from the NFL last offseason. He spent the first six years of his career with the Dallas Cowboys before being let go in March 2024.
He signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in April, but decided early in training camp to retire rather than play in the 2024 season. The Raiders removed him from the reserve/retired list earlier this offseason, allowing him to sign with Washington.
Gallup’s move to Washington reunites him with several former Dallas teammates and coaches, since Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator during Gallup’s final three seasons with the organization.
Other former Cowboys, such center Tyler Biadasz and defensive end Dorance Armstrong, followed Quinn to Washington, and Gallup has now done the same.
