Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup is making headlines once again, this time with a major career move that could reshape his future. The veteran pass-catcher, recently released by the Cowboys as part of a cap-saving measure, has officially signed a new deal with an undisclosed team, marking a fresh chapter in his NFL journey.
Gallup’s decision comes on the heels of a career shift involving a familiar face—Andre Patterson, the former Minnesota Vikings defensive line coach, who now serves as the defensive line coach and run game coordinator for the New York Giants. Sources confirm that Gallup’s new contract will place him on the same roster as Patterson, adding an intriguing twist to his comeback story.
Patterson, a respected coaching figure, played a key role in developing several elite pass rushers during his tenure in Minnesota, including Danielle Hunter and Everson Griffen. Now, with Gallup joining the Giants, the move signals a potential offensive overhaul for New York. The team, desperate for receiver help, appears eager to add a proven deep threat like Gallup to boost their struggling passing attack.
Gallup, who posted 1,107 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2019 but has battled injuries in recent seasons, is determined to revitalize his career. After managing just 418 yards and two touchdowns with the Cowboys last season, the 28-year-old wideout is betting on a change of scenery to reignite his production.
While terms of the deal have yet to be officially disclosed, reports indicate that Gallup’s contract is a short-term, incentive-laden agreement designed to give him the opportunity to prove his value. If he returns to form, the Giants could have a steal on their hands.
For Patterson, who coached against Gallup during his time with the Vikings, the move brings a unique reunion. Though he primarily focuses on defense, Patterson’s leadership and experience with NFC talent could give the Giants an edge in revamping their roster.
Gallup’s signing is expected to be formally announced by the Giants in the coming days, marking a fresh start for both the former Cowboys receiver and the ex-Vikings coach.
