HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT: Micah Parnons isn’t the only Cowboys player who needs an extension Cowboys’ Micah Parsons ‘Happiness’ Awaits With $40 Million Announcement

FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys have had a year to prepare the “highest-paid-non-QB-ever” contract extension for defensive star Micah Parsons… and for a time, they were catching a break as Micah himself spoke publicly about granting “America’s Team” a local discount. Even before the Myles Garrett deal in Cleveland and the Ja’Marr Chase agreement in Cincinnati raised the bar to $40 million APY, Micah was thinking about it.

As he previously stated, “I just played these last couple years on $2 (million) and $3 million.” I believe if I had $40 million, I would be the happiest man alive. If you go from playing for the league rookie minimum to making that much money, I think anyone would be pleased.” Parsons earned a basic salary of $2.989 million last season and is set to play in 2025 on a fifth-year option worth $24.07 million. The good news about the latter figure? If Dallas completes the legally arranged transaction, Parsons’ 2025 cap impact will be slashed in half…

What about the negative news? Aside from the fact that the deal hasn’t been completed – even though CowboysCountry.com has been informed that “proposal numbers” have been exchanged – Micah effectively stated this week that there is no negative news. “It’s coming along well,” Parsons told DLLS this week. Parsons is unconcerned about the lack of a long-term agreement or the direction this may finally take. He’s called owner Jerry Jones “my dawg,” and both sides appear to recognize that with this kind of money involved… maybe $186 million overall…

Mailbag: How does Garrett deal affect Parsons?

We continue to believe that the rumors and speculation regarding a trade here are not consistent with the Dallas agenda. The Joneses understand that a player who isn’t quite 26 but has four Pro Bowl appearances, two All-Pro invites, and 52.5 sacks in four seasons is nearly irreplaceable. Oh, and perhaps they understand how desperate a skeptical Cowboys Nation is for a feel-good move forward. Parsons has received an extension, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Both sides are optimistic. We’ve probably resolved the $40 million portion of the problem, leaving only one main concern. When?

Three major players of the Cowboys’ 2022 draft class are poised to sign extensions. Tyler Smith, a first-round pick and Pro Bowl guard, has a $21.27 million fifth-year option in 2026. Tight end Jake Ferguson, a fourth-round pick, and cornerback DaRon Bland, a fifth-round pick, are nearing the end of their rookie contracts.

The Cowboys produced more than $55 million in salary space for a reason, though it has yet to result in a high-dollar acquisition of an outside free agent. They can use that money to sign extensions for all three players, including Parsons, who is in the final year of his rookie contract.”In my mind, I think it just starts with maintaining that standard,” Smith told the audience. “When I first arrived, I observed Tyron and Zack practicing in the film room and during walkthroughs. I have seen how they study. I’ve been thinking about how I can be the best leader possible. How can I continue to raise the bar that they’ve set for me? It is something I live by every day.
