The Green Bay Packers understand that the wide receiver position is a priority this offseason. That became clear at the end of the 2024 season, when drops and injuries highlighted the position. It was verified when the Packers signed three-time Super Bowl winner Mecole Hardman to a one-year contract earlier this week.
However, there is another wide receiver with close ties to quarterback Jordan Love who could be an ideal fit.
While the Packers had a strong overall record, they never quite reached the top of the NFC. The Packers went 0-6 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings, and they lacked a dominant outside receiver. This could change soon.
“The Packers’ wide receiver situation is an odd one because what they really need is a No. 1 receiver,” PFSN Ben Rolfe writes in his scouting report. “The problem is that when they get on the board in Round 1, there is unlikely to be a clear No. 1 that they can be confidence in. As a result, they may need to consider a Day 2 initiative that has the potential to become a No. 1.
“Jalen Royals fits the bill well. He has the speed to stretch a defense and has shown that he can win contested catch scenarios. He is also a threat after the catch, thus Royals is a Round 3 project choice who might be the developing element this offense requires over the next several years.”
