The San Antonio Spurs have had a horrible 2024-25 season, punctuated by injuries, but the club is beginning to rediscover its groove despite a limited roster.
The Spurs have won two straight games and three of their last four, and will face the Toronto Raptors on the road on Sunday afternoon.
The Spurs and Raptors have 14 players included on Sunday’s injury report, but none are as significant as San Antonio’s superstar center Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama is out for the rest of the 2024-25 season owing to a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, and he will also miss Sunday’s game in Toronto.
Wembanyama concluded his 2024-25 season after only 46 games, although he established himself as one of the league’s best players during that time. Wembanyama averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and a league-leading 3.8 blocks per game, shooting 47.6% from the field and 35.2% from beyond the arc on 8.8 attempts per game.
With a 7-foot-3 physique, Wembanyama has developed into the league’s best defender despite moving like a guard with the ball.
Wembanyama’s absence has been a significant setback for the Spurs, but their whole focus is now on the offseason as they prepare for a more successful 2025-26 season. For the time being, the Spurs without Wemby can attempt to extend their surprising winning run against the Raptors this Sunday.
