The Las Vegas Raiders are a month away from making a franchise-changing decision. With the sixth pick in this year’s NFL draft, the Raiders have an opportunity to add an impact player who can propel the franchise to the next level.
While most of the talk and mock drafts have been on Ashton Jeanty, the front office has been looking at defense. Following the loss of Nate Hobbs, the Raiders’ cornerback position could be upgraded.
Hobbs played slot cornerback with the Silver and Black before moving on to Green Bay. Pete Carroll and John Spytek responded with Will Johnson and Benjamin Morrison for the top 30 visits.
Johnson had great expectations for 2024, however he missed the season due to injuries. During his three seasons as a starter, he scored three defensive touchdowns and was a playmaker for the Michigan Wolverines. The Raiders will evaluate his medical state to see whether he is worth the sixth pick.
Benjamin Morrison was in the same scenario as Johnson, suffering an injury near the end of the season. The Notre Dame cornerback is a playmaker who has four defensive touchdowns in his career. This is something that has been absent from the Raiders defense in recent seasons.
Spytek and Carroll have a lot of work to do before determining who will join the football squad. They’re starting their research with two athletes who have the potential to thrive in the NFL.
