Louisville did not fare well in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.
Creighton defeated the Cardinals 89-75 in Lexington, thanks to the Bluejays’ incredible shooting performance. Creighton shot 57% from the field and 45% from the range despite missing their first five shots out of three.
Pat Kelsey received a technical penalty at the conclusion of the game, just as Louisville was on the verge of regaining control of the game. He was unhappy with officials for failing to call an obvious foul during a shot. Kelsey then went after the official who called the tech.
Perhaps similarly dissatisfied with the ruling, a fan in the stands tossed an open water bottle onto the court, resulting in a lengthy clean-up for player safety.
And just like that (to the glee of Kentucky fans everywhere), Louisville’s season is over. The Cardinals were the popular choice to progress to the Round of 32, where they will face the winner of Auburn or Alabama State. Of course, the Tigers will be greatly favored in that game.
The Cardinals finished Pat Kelsey’s first season in Louisville with a 27-8 record. Creighton, currently 25-10, will play again on Saturday.
