Despite retiring from the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL, Michael Gallup has found a new home with the Washington Commanders. Although he moved to an NFC East opponent, he did so with good reason.
The Commanders won the NFC East division crown and advanced to the NFC Championship Game. Jayden Daniels, a rookie quarterback, captivated the NFL globe during his debut season.
Gallup has the opportunity to be a part of that. He simply stated his function on the new squad.
“I’m gonna bring that energy and that juice,” Gallup stated on the Commanders X, formerly Twitter, account. “If you need something, I’m gonna go get it for you.”
After sitting out this season, it’s apparent that his enthusiasm for football hasn’t waned. Following an injury-plagued 2023 season, he decided to hang up his cleats.
Gallup has never had more than 1,000 receiving yards since his sophomore season. Regardless, a change of location could be beneficial for the recipient.
He will play in a more dynamic and explosive attack under offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. After all, the Commanders had the league’s fifth-highest scoring offense at 28.5 points per game.
Michael Gallup could be the Commanders’ hidden weapon.
Gallup has a penchant for hitting deep balls. Fortunately, Daniels is very comfortable throwing it. As already stated, Kingsbury has a dynamic offensive system.
Throughout the season, he had players like Olamide Zaccheaus and Noah Brown making huge plays. Adding Gallup to that list would do nothing but benefit the Commanders.
Not to mention, several other teams have been pursuing him for the past year. Washington contacted Gallup after he decided to make a comeback.
They’ll expand their receiver corps with the arrival of the former Cowboys wide receiver. They want to run it back now that head coach Dan Quinn and Kingsbury are both staying.
In addition, other Eagles players retired or left for free agency. For Washington, now could be the best moment to stockpile and make a lengthy playoff run.
While they had a taste of the NFC Championship Game, it is unlikely that they will be satisfied. Quinn led his last team, the Atlanta Falcons, to the 2017 Super Bowl.
Although they came across Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, he understood what it takes to get there. One of these elements is having depth in all places. Gallup readily communicates this to the Commanders as the 2025 season approaches.
