Almost every offseason rumor this year appears to concern the Cleveland Browns. In all likelihood, the team with the second overall pick will select Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders to be their franchise quarterback. However, speculations claim that they are interested in trading for a number of stars throughout the league, including quarterback Kirk Cousins and receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Dak Prescott is the most recent veteran believed to be joining Cleveland. It appears doubtful that the Cowboys will move their quarterback, but is there a trade package that works for both sides?
Browns’ trade request for Dak Prescott
Browns obtain Dak Prescott.
Cowboys receive: second overall pick, fourth round pick, Greg Newsome.
On March 26, reports of a probable Prescott-to-Cleveland transaction flooded the internet. The report was swiftly discredited, and it is unlikely to happen, but perhaps the Browns can put together a trade package so loaded with skill and assets that the Cowboys will be forced to accept. After all, Prescott’s relationship with the Cowboys has always fluctuated.
The Browns quarterback situation is currently a mess. The team is performing their due research to ensure that they get the long-term answer to the question right. The depth chart’s current gunslingers are Kenny Pickett and Deshaun Watson, who were recently traded for. Pickett is arguably best suited as a backup, and Watson’s time with the Browns has been a nightmare.
Their trade and subsequent contract with Watson rank among the worst decisions in NFL history. His stint in Cleveland has been marred by off-the-field concerns, injury problems, and inconsistent performance. He even recently re-ruptured his Achilles tendon, which means he will most certainly miss the 2025 season.
Because of his enormous contract, the team would most likely have to sell Watson before making a move on Prescott, who is also attached to a big deal.
Although it is doubtful, the Browns would benefit greatly from a Prescott trade. Ward and Sanders have a lot of promise, but the Tennessee Titans have the first choice, so the Browns do not receive the best of the bunch. The only option with their selection may be their backup choice. Furthermore, there is no surety with prospects. Prescott, on the other hand, makes it clear what you’re receiving.
Prescott has nine seasons as a starter under his belt. He has passed for 31,437 yards and 213 touchdowns in his career, alternating between excellent and poor performances.
The quarterback had a disappointing season in 2024, totaling 1,978 yards and 11 touchdowns in eight games before sustaining a season-ending hamstring injury.
