The 2025 NFL Draft is less than a month away, and although many beat reporters are focusing on potential selections for their teams, draft analysts are becoming a little snarky.
Things usually start to narrow down at this time of year, but out of the 37 mock drafts we looked at, 16 prospects were projected to Detroit who hadn’t been mocked the Lions all season, and three more were projected to Detroit. Not to mention the dummy drafts we didn’t include because analysts either employed AI to perform the work for them or created papers based on fever dreams (no, I’m not kidding).
Let’s examine the most recent players that the Detroit Lions are making fun of.
Players with offensive skills
Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan, wide receiver
Eddie Brown of the San Diego Union-Tribune is the source.
“McMillan is a huge (6-4, 219), very effective substitute for Mr. Amazing hands and arms. consider him to be a less refined, more athletic Drake London, and he has a lot more potential. Amon-Ra St. Brown’s RAC skills would complement McMillan’s disputed catch ability. — Brown Missouri’s Luther Burden, WR
Football Guys’ Matt Bitonti is the source.
“Other than different team demands, there isn’t really a reason why Luther Burden is declining. He is an extremely talented player. The best-case scenario for his draft value seems to be that he goes 12 or 20. He can create a formidable trio in Detroit with Jameson Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown. — Bitonti
Erik’s Opinion:
Although McMillian’s stock has been declining in certain draft analysts’ rankings, this is the first time he has been in the Roundup, but I’m not sure I’m buying the decline. He would provide the Lions with wide receiver stability going ahead and be a fantastic option at WR-X if he were to drop to the team. Although Burden isn’t a perfect match at WR-X, he would be a lot of fun if the Lions decide to change their offensive strategy. Burden seems to be the more likely of the two to be available at selection No. 28.
Texas’s Jahdae Barron, CB
Mario Enriquez of the Pro Football Network is the source.
When healthy, the Detroit Lions’ front seven is among the best in the league, but despite last season’s improvement, the secondary still requires improvement. The Patriots’ acquisition of Carlton Davis III only serves to highlight that necessity.
“Barron possesses the qualities of an NFL lockdown corner. His size and physicality are questioned, but that shouldn’t prevent him from getting selected in the first round. In 2024, he excelled in coverage and recorded five interceptions, making him a turnover machine. Enriquez
