The Padres completed the four-game sweep with a 5-0 victory, becoming one of the final unbeaten teams, along with the Los Angeles Dodgers (5-0), New York Yankees (3-0), and St. Louis Cardinals. This great start also marks history for San Diego, as the league revealed in a social media post that it is only the second time the team has begun 4-0 since its inception in 1969.

The Padres last accomplished this accomplishment in 1984, when they made their first World Series appearance before losing to the Detroit Tigers in five games. Starting pitcher Nick Pivetta was a key contributor to the sweep, pitching seven scoreless innings on Sunday, allowing one hit, zero walks, and striking out four.

Outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. emerged as the series’ most potent offensive threat, with 15 at-bats, seven hits, five runs scored, one home run, two RBI, two walks, and three steals.

It remains to be seen whether the Padres can maintain this momentum as they prepare to play the Cleveland Guardians for a two-game series.
