The DP World Tour has decided to impose sanctions on its players who competed in the first LIV Golf event at Centurion Golf Club from June 9 to 11.
Each player will be fined £100,000, and the proceeds from the fines will be divided evenly between prize funds for upcoming tournaments and the tour’s Golf for Good program for worthy charity organizations.
Furthermore, each player has been suspended from competing in the Genesis Scottish Open, the Barbasol Championship (July 7-10), and the Barracuda Championship (July 14-17), and their names have been removed from the entry lists for these events.
“Every action somebody does in life has a consequence, and professional athletics is no exception, especially if a person decides to breach the rules.
That is what has happened with several of our members,” said Keith Pelley, CEO of the DP World Tour.
“Many members I’ve spoken with in recent weeks believe that those who chose this path have disrespected not only them and our Tour, but also the meritocratic ecosystem of professional golf, which has been the bedrock of our game for the past half-century and will be the foundation upon which we build the next 50 years.
“Their actions are not fair to the majority of our membership and undermine the Tour, which is why we are taking the action we have announced today.”
It had already been claimed that the new LIV Golf players will be barred from playing at The Renaissance Club next month, which the DP World Tour confirmed today.
This is the first important action taken by the old European Tour since the launch of the LIV Golf Series, which was commissioned by Greg Norman and funded by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.
The PGA Tour penalized members who violated regulations and rejected release requests on June 9, but Pelley and the DP World Tour have been silent since then.
Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer, Louis Oosthuizen, Bernd Wiesberger, and Sam Horsfield will be among the most prominent players affected by these punishments.
