The Seattle Seahawks have made some significant adjustments this summer, with some of the most significant coming to the wide receiver group after moving DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers and dismissing Tyler Lockett. Both are adamant that it eliminates two solid targets for quarterback Sam Darnold, who was signed to a three-year, $100.5 million contract that will keep him with the organization until the 2027 season.
To ensure that Darnold has choices to pass to, Brad Gagnon thinks that the Seahawks will sign free-agent wide receiver Amari Cooper, who has five Pro Bowl appearances in his 10-year career.
Cooper is undoubtedly coming off a bad year with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, when he set career lows in targets (89), catches (44), yards (547), and touchdowns (four). However, if he can return to being the same guy who has exceeded 1,000 receiving yards in seven different seasons, he could be a bargain for the Seahawks, with Spotrac estimating his market value at $18.9 million per year. It’s also unlikely that Cooper would replace Jaxon Smith-Njigba as Darnold’s top target, given he had 100 receptions, 1,130 yards, and six touchdowns in 2024.
Instead, he may compete for Darnold’s second option against Cooper Kupp, whom the Seahawks also signed in free agency for a three-year, $45 million contract.
