Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers were NFC contenders last season. However, they were not a top contender and were promptly ousted in the playoffs’ wild card round.
Going into the summer, the Packers were expected to be more proactive than in previous years. So far, Brian Gutekunst has chosen to continue doing business as usual. He has not made any bold moves that are out of the ordinary for Green Bay.
The Packers have signed offensive tackle Aaron Banks, cornerback Nate Hobbs, and wide receiver Mecole Hardman. Banks and Hobbs figure to be significant elements in the 2025 NFL season.
However, Hardman is much more likely to make an impact as a return man on special teams.
One significant need entering the summer was for another pass rusher. That has not happened to this point.
Green Bay Packers Expected to Make Huge Trade for Bengals’ $21 Million Star
Despite the fact that Green Bay has yet to add a pass rusher, a well-known player may still be available. That’s the name of Cincinnati Bengals standout Trey Hendrickson.
The Packers were named in a blockbuster trade proposal by Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox. Green Bay would receive Hendrickson from the Bengals, along with the No. 81 overall pick in the third round, in exchange for Jaire Alexander and the No. 54 overall pick in the second round.
Moving on from Alexander and acquiring a second round pick for Hendrickson as well as a third round pick would be a significant gain for Green Bay. If that agreement was on the table, Gutekunst should act without hesitation.
Hendrickson has averaged 17.5 sacks per season for the past two years. Adding that kind of output to the Packers’ already strong defense would propel them to the next level.
All of that being said, it’s only a notion, but one that the whole Green Bay fan base would immediately support.
