The San Antonio Spurs’ 2025 playoff hopes are diminishing by the day, as the team currently ranks 13th in the Western Conference with a 32-45 record. The Spurs have faced with numerous ailments, most notably Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox. Nonetheless, the Spurs continue to put in competitive performances night in and night out. The Spurs squad contains a lot of excellent young players who will help the team in the future, either as rotational players or trade assets. This season, seven different Spurs have averaged double-digit points, with Julian Champagnie threatening to join the group with 9.8 points per game.
“I would not like this for Wemby,” Wright remarked when asked about Durant’s prospective move. “I would not like this for Spurs because I look at Wemby and the Spurs as a team who is least likely to compete for a championship over the next 10 years, next year, with or without Kevin Durant.” “I wouldn’t want to give up my future flexibility, I would want to keep all of my powder dry to see if the Giannis alarm ever starts running,” Wright told ESPN.
Wright’s point is that the Spurs should be seeking to create long-term success, and he believes that signing Durant does not put the Spurs in serious title contention.
That being said, it’s difficult to picture many teams being able to stop Durant, Wembanyama, and Fox in a seven-game series, especially with the Spurs’ current roster’s plenty of affordable depth. Durant is averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game for a poor 35-42 Suns club. The 36-year-old is having one of his most effective seasons yet, shooting 52.7 percent from the floor and 43.0 percent from beyond the arc.
