The Phoenix Suns are in possibly the worst situation of any NBA team, sitting 11th in the Western Conference despite boasting a star triumvirate of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.
Stars like that don’t come cheap, as the Suns are paying Durant, Booker, and Beal a combined $150 million this season simply to avoid the play-in tournament. Moving forward, the Suns have very few options, the most obvious being to trade superstar forward Kevin Durant this offseason.
There are a few potential trade targets for the future Hall of Famer, but the San Antonio Spurs stand out. The Spurs have one of the greatest foundations in the NBA, built around 21-year-old superstar center Victor Wembanyama, and are probably just one piece away from being a serious contender.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report created a massive three-team hypothetical deal including the Spurs, Suns, and Brooklyn Nets that would match Durant with Wembanyama.
Durant, 36, is averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season on an effective 52.7/43.0/83.9 shooting line. Durant is still dominating at a high level in his 17th season, but it has not translated into wins for Phoenix.
Still, a duo of Durant and Wembanyama would expectedly take over the NBA, but giving away Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, three first-round picks, and a pick swap to get him could get pricey.
