TRAGEDY: Falcons doing Kirk Cousins a favor by refusing to meet quarterback’s request for 2025 Champion league

Kirk Cousins has expressed his desire for the Falcons to release him so the veteran can look for a starting position elsewhere. The recent rumor that the Browns were open to signing Cousins but were not prepared to take on the obligations of his existing contract served to support this. Atlanta and Cousins are now at a standstill as they try to see who will blink first. The game is straightforward for Atlanta: either the quarterback is willing to renegotiate his deal, or a team is foolish enough to trade for Cousins.

The Falcons will still pay the veteran even if none of these scenarios materialize. Kirk is a reliable backup, so you might as well have him on the roster. Why would you pay a cousin to start for a different team? Atlanta will only be motivated to move on if someone else bears some of the cost of the quarterback’s contract.

Atlanta lost all accountability to the quarterback when Kirk Cousins cited an injury for the team’s collapse at the close of the 2024 season. Whether it was accurate or not, it was a very self-centered move that shown a lack of concern for Atlanta’s head coach and the team’s welfare. The quarterback lied to the Atlanta media, either to deny an injury or later to try to salvage his declining value, regardless of the reality.

The quarterback should stay with the Falcons until he finds a trade or is ready to alter his contract, regardless of the justification. The Falcons have no incentive or justification for letting the quarterback go and paying for the veteran to start for another team. If you are forced to pay Cousins, you should wait for a surprise trade or for the veteran to agree to a different contract.

Actually, Cousins ought to be happy with the Falcons’ current style of play. The veteran would be better off on Atlanta’s bench if Cleveland is where they are most likely to end up. The Browns’ situation would rapidly deteriorate due to his lack of mobility and Cleveland’s obvious offensive problems. There just isn’t a spot left where Cousins can flourish unless the 49ers or Vikings lose interest in their current starters. Perhaps being benched for a season is a suitable punishment for the quarterback’s handling of his time in Atlanta if he is unwilling to alter his contract.
