If the Pittsburgh Steelers played today, Mason Rudolph would be the starting quarterback, and some members of the organization aren’t sure how to feel.
Josina Anderson, an NFL insider, recently spoke with someone in the Steelers organization and inquired what the feelings were like during this very uncertain period. “What’s the vibe?” “I would say it feels a little strange here,” Anderson’s informant stated. “The running joke around here right now is, ‘Who’ll be our quarterback?’ Now, I wouldn’t say there’s any worry, but the present quarterback depth speaks for itself.”
Many expected veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers to attend a ceremony organized by Pat McAfee at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh and declare that he had signed a contract with the team, but this did not happen. Instead, the future Hall of Famer maintains silent about the entire scenario. Some speculate that he is waiting to see whether Pittsburgh selects a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. Shedeur Sanders, the Colorado quarterback, recently visited Steelers headquarters and rated his experience a “10,” comparing Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin to his father and CU coach, the famous Deion Sanders. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback dilemma is raising eyebrows and causing major concerns within the organization. According to NFL Insider Josina Anderson, the locker room has a “weird vibe,” with Mason Rudolph now at the top of the depth chart.
“The running joke around here right now is, ‘Who’s going to be our quarterback?'” one team member told Anderson. “Now, I wouldn’t say there’s panic, but the current QB depth says what it says.”
Rudolph, a veteran backup, is suddenly the Steelers’ starting quarterback—for the time being—after a series of summer transactions left them without a clear QB1. While supporters continue to demand explanation, the ambiguity has reportedly left players and staff confused and uneasy.
To make matters further odd, others within the building are throwing fingers at Aaron Rodgers. The veteran quarterback’s name came up in regard to an unusual dynamic shift after Pittsburgh passed on multiple QB targets, including Rodgers himself, who eventually went elsewhere.
As OTAs approach, the Steelers have a depth chart full of unanswered concerns, a locker room filled of distrust, and a fans wondering whether the mayhem is only beginning.
