The Green Bay Packers have several great wide receivers on their roster. However, none of the existing wide receivers on the roster have shown to be a real No. 1 target for franchise quarterback Jordan Love.
As a result, Brian Gutekunst and the front management are expected to target a wide receiver early in the 2025 NFL Draft.
With several possibilities projected to be available to the Packers with the No. 23 overall pick, there is a growing chance that the team may land an outstanding player. If they pursue that path, they may need to relocate to the lower section of the wide receiver room.
It’s probable that Green Bay might have to cut some of their wide receiver talent.
The Green Bay Packers could make a surprising roster move to resolve a potential logjam.
Brian Sampson of the Dairyland Express has speculated that a roster cut could occur. He believes the team may cut ways with Bo Melton.
“Melton has shown enough to earn a roster spot in the NFL, just maybe not in Green Bay,” according to Sampson. “The Packers could do right by him and release him before May, giving him a real shot to catch on somewhere else.”
During the 2024 NFL season, Melton did not play much. He appeared in all 17 games but only had eight catches for 91 yards. At 25 years old, Melton deserves more playing time.
Keeping talent on the roster is usually a good thing, but adding a superior option would further limit Melton’s playing time. Either dealing him or letting him go would be a good move for Melton’s future and would alleviate a potential stumbling block for the Packers.
