John Gambodoro, the longstanding Sports Radio Talk Show presenter of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix, declared “that there’s a zero percent chance that Bradley Beal comes back” to the Suns next season.
“And I truly believe that, you know me, if I go out on a limb, on something, I’m probably doing it for a reason,” Gambodoro told the “Burns and Gambo” show on Saturday, April 13. “I don’t see a scenario in which Bradley Beal can come back.”
Beal has two years and $111 million left on his five-year, $251 million contract.
The Suns attempted to deal him this season to acquire Jimmy Butler, but Beal has a no-trade clause. Ultimately, the Heat agreed to trade Butler to the Golden State Warriors.
“I don’t believe you could trade [Beal],” Gambodoro remarked. “I think you go to the offseason and you try before to agree to any type of buyout or anything like that.”
Buying him out, on the other hand, is easier said than done due to the hefty sum owing him. However, even if the Suns find a way to get rid of Beal, he will remain a former three-time NBA All-Star guard who simply did not fit in with Phoenix’s two ball-dominant players.
Bradley Beal might be better suited outside Phoenix.
Despite his awkward position next to Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, Beal averaged 17.0 points on 50/39/80 shooting, 3.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and a team-high 1.1 steals in 32.1 minutes.
“I’ll take that guy for $15 million,” Gambodoro declared. “I talked to someone in the NBA last night, and I said, ‘Okay, let’s talk about where he’s going.'” He mentioned Miami, Denver, Golden State, and possibly San Antonio. And this is someone who knows, and that’s what he told me: Miami and Denver are two teams he may go to if he ever gets a buyout.
“He also stated to keep an eye on Golden State and even the Spurs, depending on the future coach, since with the new salary — $15, $20 million per year — you could endure Bradley Beal losing 20 games due to injuries. You can’t bear losing a guy who makes $40, $50 million a year and is about to retire. But for a $15, $20 million player, any team that signs Bradley Beal can argue that he’s a better fit for that team than the Suns in Phoenix.”
ESPN stated that the Heat had little interest in trading for Beal while they were shopping Butler due to his pricey contract and no-trade clause.
However, if he arrives at a lower cost after a buyout, Miami will undoubtedly jump at the chance to sign Beal.
Bradley Beal preferred Miami over Phoenix before the trade.
When the Washington Wizards decided to part ways with Beal in the summer of 2023, Miami was at the top of his list of potential new teams.
In a 2023 interview with Andscape, Beal stated that his initial favorite team was Miami. “So, we called Miami. [Miami president] Pat [Riley] says well, I’ll go talk to [owner] Micky [Arison] and figure it out. So he goes, talks to Micky, we go, we hear back from [New York] Knicks, Sacramento, Brooklyn a little bit, and then it was Milwaukee and it was one more big team … And that was kind of one of the most difficult things about every trade and every team. And I respect and lo
