Jose Siri, a New York Mets outfielder, may be placed on the injured list after fouling a ball off his shin during Saturday’s 3-1 loss to the Athletics, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.
“He’s in pain,” Carlos Mendoza told Joe Pantorno of AMNY. “He walked in this morning, still on crutches. He’s sore and can’t put weight on it. “We’ll see where we are.”
Siri left the field on a golf cart after a foul ball struck his shin in the second inning. Siri stated that he does not sure whether he will need to go on the IL. Mendoza said he could see it becoming necessary at some point.
“The way he’s feeling right now, I could see this as a potential IL unless he turns a corner here pretty soon,” Mendoza told the reporter.
Siri signed a one-year, $2.4 million contract with the Mets for the 2025 season, and he has been platooning in center field alongside Tyrone Taylor. With Siri sidelined for an undetermined amount of time, Taylor will be the full-time center fielder in the meantime.
Fortunately for the Mets, they won the series, taking two of three games over the weekend. The Mets improved to 10-5 overall and will play the first of three games against the Minnesota Twins on Monday before heading home for a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Despite some facets of the squad not hitting on all cylinders, the Mets have gotten off to a terrific start this season and are expected to remain at the top of the National League East throughout the year. It’s important keeping an eye on Siri’s status for any prospective IL moves. Meanwhile, the Mets will aim to keep the good times going in Minnesota.
